About Us
In accordance with its charter, the Needy Basket was founded in 1946 to provide food and other assistance to needy families in Tipp City, Monroe Township, and Bethel Township in Miami County, Ohio. It has been a mainstay of the community ever since. As the community grew so have the demands on the Needy Basket. Requests for food have increased from 522 in 2009 to 1,554 in 2020. The need exists in our community today in spite of a strong national economy.
The Needy Basket depends on food and monetary contributions to be successful, and our community has always provided overwhelming support. Support comes from individuals, schools, churches, local businesses and individual grants. The following organizations have been consistent, strong supporters of our efforts:
- The United Way of Miami County
- The Paul G. Duke Foundation
- The Tipp City Foundation
- Thrivent Financial Choice
- The Meijer "Simply Give" Program
- The Shared Harvest Food Bank
